Also, Georgia defeats Georgia Tech in double overtime in a wild day in college football.

Another Auburn Miracle Reshapes SEC, BCS

The games were just a click apart on TV remotes Saturday, and displayed simultaneously on sports bar screens.

But one -- Auburn's last-second 34-28 victory over Alabama -- had more impact on the Southeastern Conference and the Bowl Championship Series situations than did  Georgia's double-overtime, 41-34 victory over Georgia Tech.

"The game shouldn't have ended that way," Alabama coach Nick Saban said in al.com of Chris Davis' 100-yard return of a missed field goal by the Crimson Tide (see the attached video).

But it did. And so ended Alabama's undefeated season and No. 1 ranking in the BCS standings.

It was the second time in recent weeks that Auburn won via a so-called miracle finish. On Nov. 16, the Tigers scored a late TD on a tipped fourth-down pass to defeat Georgia 43-38.

Now the No. 4 Tigers are in the SEC title game in Atlanta on Saturday, Dec. 7 ( 4 p.m., CBS). Will they have another miracle finish for No. 5 Missouri, the SEC East champion?

And as for the BCS:

  • No. 2 Florida state defeated Florida 37-7 on Saturday. The Seminoles now must play Duke in the ACC title game on Saturday, Dec. 7 (8 p.m., ABC).
  • No. 3 Ohio State barely defeated unranked Michigan 42-41 on Saturday.
What happens next? Well, until the next miracle ...
