Decatur Schools Rank High on State Report Card

The City Schools of Decatur brought home a glowing report card.

Georgia’s statewide evaluation of schools, called the College and Career Ready Performance Index, ranked the Decatur school system tops in the metro area and 11th from the top among all state public school systems.

The CCRPI found that Decatur's elementary schools scored highest in the metro area and ranked eleventh in the state, according to a story on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

For high schools, Decatur had the top-ranking high school system in the metro area and the seventh-best in the state. Of course, Decatur has only one high school.

The newspaper's analysis of the scores found that among individual schools, Oakhurst Elementary was the No. 4 top-performing elementary school in the state.

Schools can receive scores up to 110 on the CCRPI. The state Department of Education explained the scoring system when it released the CCRPI results, saying.

A school and district’s overall score is made up of three major areas: Achievement (70 points possible), Progress (15 points possible) and Achievement Gap (15 points possible). In addition to the three major areas, some schools receive “Challenge Points” to add to their score (up to 10 points).

The state DOE website says the average score for Georgia’s elementary schools is 83.4, middle schools 81.4 and high schools 72.6.

Here are the scores for the Decatur schools.

  • Decatur System: 93.7.
  • Clairmont Elementary: 101.
  • Decatur High: 90.1.
  • Fifth Avenue: 93.9.
  • Glennwood Elementary: 93.1.
  • Oakhurst Elementary: 101.7.
