Do You Have the Proper Emergency Supplies in Your Car Trunk?
Ride Lawrenceville Highway, East Ponce de Leon Avenue or any of the metro Atlanta interstates on a regular basis, you'll inevitably see a car on the shoulder, broken down.

But if something were to happen to your motor vehicle that caused you to stop — a flat tire or dead battery, for instance — would you be prepared?

Pop open your car trunk and see what you have. If you're like most motorists, it likely has more junk than essential items that could be useful in an emergency.

Some 67 percent of drivers, in fact, have had some non-essential items in the trunks of their vehicles, rather than the necessary tool that would help in a jam, according to a recent survey conducted by State Farm and KRC Research.

Among what's considered essential:
  • Jumper cables
  • Flashlight
  • First-Aid kit
Women were less likely than men to have the necessary emergency items. The survey also noted women were less likely to even check their emergency supplies — at a rate of 53 percent — compared to 81 percent of men, the results showed.
