Masters 2016 Weather: Wind in the Forecast For Augusta

Golf fans, though, can expect sunny skies for the duration of the tournament.

AUGUSTA, GA -- Whipping winds may be part of the story as The Masters tournament gets underway this week in Augusta.

But golf fans heading east on Interstate 20 can expect sunny skies for the duration of the four-day tourney.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Augusta area lasting until 8 p.m. Thursday. Opening-round play of The Masters began Thursday morning.

Winds are forecast to be blowing at 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. The heaviest winds are expected Thursday afternoon, when they will no doubt play havoc with shots by some of the world's greatest golfers.

As for the spring showers that always threaten play at Augusta? The weather service says we should be in the clear.

The forecast all the way through Sunday calls for either sunny or mostly sunny skies during the day.

The high is forecast to be 74 degrees on Thursday, 68 on Friday, 63 on Saturday and 65 on Sunday.

There could be a chill over the Masters Sunday morning, though. Saturday night's low will flirt with freezing, with a low predicted of 33 degrees.
