Wind Warnings in Effect Here

While Hurricane now Tropical Storm Sandy is impacting New York, New Jersey and other states on the Northeastern Coast of the U.S., the effects of the massive storm are being felt hundreds of miles away, even here in Duluth and Gwinnett County.

With the storm moving inland, and coupled with high pressure building from the north, the National Weather Service has issued wind warnings into Tuesday evening for metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

A high wind warning, with sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 55, is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for the North Georgia mountains.

A wind advisory, with gusts up to 40 mph, is in effect for the rest of central and northern Georgia, including Gwinnett County, also until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The wind could make driving hazardous, result in power outages and create hazardous conditions for boaters on area lakes, according to the weather service.

And with overnight temperatures expected in the low- to mid-30s, morning wind chills are expected to fall below freezing.
