Brownwood Park Clean-up, APS Board Vote and More

MON — Oct. 1: Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education meeting, 130 Trinity Ave. SW. Committee of the Whole Board Work Session, 2 p.m.; Community Meeting, 6 p.m., and Legislative Meeting, 7 p.m. The board is expected to announce and vote on a permanent principal for Jackson High School.

TUES — Oct. 2: Homebuying Assistance seminar: You may be eligible for up to $15,000 in downpayment and closing cost assistance to buy a home, even a fixer upper, in the City of Atlanta as part of the NeighborhoodLIFT program. Come to an information session on the program. You do not have to be first-time homebuyer. The information session will help you determine if you might be eligible for up to $15,000 in assistance and what steps you should take next. Resources for Residents and Communities, 100 Flat Shoals Ave. SE, 6:30 p.m. The information session is FREE but space is limited. To register, call 404-525-4130, ext. 17.

WED — Oct. 3: East Atlanta Library celebrate's literacy. In support of Jumpstart's national campaign, Read for the Record, groups across the country will celebrate literacy by reading Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis. Join the East Atlanta Branch Library — 400 Flat Shoals Ave. SE at 10:30 a.m. — as it shares the book during a special storytime, It's geared for children between 3 and 5 years of age. Children will also make a craft inspired by the book.

FRI — Oct. 5: Taste of Atlanta. Taste of Atlanta is the city's premier food+wine+beer+cocktail festival that showcases the diversity of Atlanta's food scene and attracts food lovers locally and from across the regionfrom Atlanta, the Southeast and beyond. Now in its 11th year, this year's festival, which features food from 80 of Atlanta's favorite restaurants, is again at Tech Square — 800 Spring St. NW. Additionally, there's the Home Plate  Main Stage, Kitchen Workshop, Family Food Zone with interactive cooking demonstrations, and wine, beer, cocktail tasting tents and educational seminars. Cost: $25.

SAT — Oct. 6: Brownwood Park Work Day. Join friends and neighbors, EACA Parks and Green Space/Friends of Brownwood Park, 607 Brownwood Ave. SE. for a Hands on Atlanta work day at 9 a.m. Volunteers will help mulch trails, work on the fitness trail and clear invasive plants from the stream area. Snacks and water will be provided.
