Guns Confiscated at Wheeler High School

Two unloaded guns were confiscated from two students at Wheeler High School without incident on Friday, according to Principal David Chiprany.

In an e-mail message delivered over the weekend to the Wheeler community, Chiprany said a student tip led to school administrators and resource officers taking action, and that the students in possession of the weapons were taken into police custody.

Wheeler and all other Cobb County School District schools are closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday; classes will resume on Tuesday.

"According to school district policy, any student who brings a weapon of this nature to school will be expelled," wrote Chiprany, who did not specify the type of guns that were found.

"I want to commend the student who brought this situation to our attention. Students are a critical part of our ability to maintain a safe school campus. Please encourage your child to report any activity that they see or hear that they feel is a threat to their safety. This is an example of how our collaborative efforts can help ensure a safe and secure school campus."
