Cobb County officials have identified the man whose body was retrieved from inside a silo at an East Cobb concrete plant last week.

Norberto Galicia Romero, 49, of Houston, TX was working inside a silo at Thomas Concrete at 4650 Canton Highway with a colleague at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Monday when he lost his footing and fell, according to a statement released by the Cobb County Department of Public Safety. Romero was immediately buried by the gravel and sand inside the silo.

First responders discovered Romero was already dead when they arrived at the plant and began trying to recover his body. Officials said that the recovery option took longer than usual due to the challenging weather conditions present in the area on Monday afternoon and evening; Romero’s body was not recovered until 9 p.m., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said.

Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have already begun examining the accident, a Cobb fire spokesman told the AJC.
