JC Fire, Police to Host Community Safety Day

The Johns Creek Fire and Police departments will perform several demonstrations as part of  “Community Safety Day” on Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the State Bridge Corners Shopping Center (Home Depot and Target parking lots).

“Community Safety Day” is a free event and precursor to Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 7-13) and will help heighten awareness about basic safety issues.

“Though as first responders we focus on public safety in Johns Creek every day, 'Community Safety Day' is a special time to help our citizens become more conscious about the safety of themselves and their families,” said Police Chief Ed Densmore and Fire Chief Jeff Hogan.

Firefighters and police officers also will perform a variety of rope rescue and fire extinguisher demonstrations, SWAT exercises and radKIDS® demonstrations to show some of the many skills they use regularly. They will provide car-seat safety checks, and conduct vehicle rollover demonstrations. Visitors will be able to ask questions of Johns Creek firefighters and police officers and learn all about public safety vehicles and equipment.

Demonstration Schedule:

-       K-9 Demo - 10:15 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.

-       Extrication Demo - 10:30 a.m.

-       SWAT Demo & Display of Equipment – 11 a.m. & 1:15 p.m.

-       Vehicle Rollover Demo – 11:15 a.m., 12:20 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.

The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation will answer questions about ways to handle various emergencies. The Crime Scene Investigations unit will display an interactive table for finger printing and the Johns Creek Police Department’s K-9 unit will also be at the event.

Informational handouts and safety checklists will be available and the event features children’s activities, such as a bounce house and slide.  Free food and drinks will be provided while supplies last.
