Old Alabama Road Reopens Following Sinkhole

A temporary patch has been placed over the affected area between Buice Road and Waits Ferry Crossing in Johns Creek.

UPDATED at 10:59 p.m. Thursday -- A portion of Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek has reopened to motorists following a water main break that led to the formation of a sinkhole early Thursday morning.

A temporary patch has been place along the affected area between Buice Road and Waits Ferry Crossing, said city spokesperson Jeff Breslau.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the construction area, "as there is a slight hump in the road with the temporary patch," he added.

The sinkhole measured between 20 and 30 feet in size, and also forced Fulton County Water Resources to temporarily disconnect service to about 300 affected customers in the area.

Water service was eventually restored to those customers. Breslau noted the temporary patch will allow Old Alabama Road to remain operational until a permanent fix is made.
