Volunteers Needed for U.S. Amateur this August at AAC

More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to ensure the championship will be fully staffed and will create the ultimate experience for the players, their families and the spectators.

The Atlanta Athletic Club is actively seeking volunteers to help with the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship, Aug. 9-17.

More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to ensure the championship will be fully staffed and will create the ultimate experience for the players, their families and the spectators.

“Volunteers are vitally important to the success of the U.S. Amateur Championship,” said Co-Chairman Charlie Anderson in a press release. “It’s a chance to get involved with a great event and see some of the future stars of golf.”

Among the areas that volunteers are needed are:

  • Volunteer hospitality
  • Uniform exchange
  • Golf cart control
  • Practice range
  • Tee refreshments
  • Transportation
  • Status boards
  • Public scoreboard
  • Stroke-play scoring
  • Standard bearers
  • Disabled services
  • Marshals
  • Merchandise
  • Access control

“This would be a great way to get your golf club or group involved in the championship,” Co-Chairman Glenn Cornell said in the release. “Or if you’re an individual who wants to get involved, we can use you too. We would appreciate and value your service to this great event.”

The volunteer package includes:

• One volunteer uniform created by FootJoy that consists of a golf shirt, belt and choice of headwear.
• One volunteer badge that provides access to the grounds all nine days of the championship (Aug. 9-17).
• One guest badge that provides access all days of the championship.
• Four meal vouchers to be used during the week.
• Complimentary parking
• A 20 percent discount in the Atlanta Athletic Club golf shop throughout the week.

The fee for the volunteer package is $130.54.

Juniors may also volunteer for the championship. The junior package includes:

• One volunteer uniform that consists of a golf shirt and baseball-style cap
• One volunteer badge that provides access to the grounds all nine days of the championship (Aug. 9-17).
• Three meal vouchers to be used during the week.
• Complimentary parking
• A 20 percent discount in the Atlanta Athletic Club golf shop throughout the week.

The fee for the junior volunteer package is $53.50.

The U.S. Amateur Championship, conducted by the United State Golf Association, is the oldest golf championship in the country. This will be the 114th competition of the event, which began in 1895.

The Athletic Club has a legacy of hosting major championships. Since moving to its current location in North Fulton County, the club has hosted the:
