Updated 3 p.m., Sept. 10: The case is still active, but police have released a photo of video surveillance showing the suspect. See attached. "It is not the best, but it is what we have for now," said Lilburn Police Capt. Ben Haynes. If you have information that may assist, contact the Lilburn Police Department.

A concerned witness helped foil an attempted kidnapping about a week ago inside a Lilburn thrift store, according to a report released today by the Lilburn Police Department.

The child, whose age was not noted on the report, was at the Park Avenue Thrift store located at 3870 Lawrenceville Road with his father and mother on Aug. 30, when after 1 p.m., a man approached the young boy in a toy section, the report stated.

The witness recounts seeing the unknown man walk over to the little boy, reach into his pocket and pull out some money.

"After luring the boy over with the money, he grabs the child by the arm," according to the report, which was requested by Patch.

The witness then approached the man and the young boy, and that's when he let go of the boy's arm and proceeded to the front of the building while "acting like he was looking at some paintings," the report stated.

Before the suspect could depart, the father asked his son what happened, and the boy said the man "touched me." And, when the father asked him who touched him, he pointed to a man wearing a lime green shirt.

When police officers arrived, the father stated that he was looking at some pants while his son perused the toy section. It wasn't until the concerned witness told him he "needed to go get his baby" that he was alerted to something being wrong.

By the time the father checked with his child, and ran outside the store, the man was gone. According to the police report, he left in an unknown direction and unknown mode -- whether by foot or vehicle.

Police later reviewed surveillance footage, and noticed a man near the toy section about 1:06 p.m.

"He walks around the store appearing to be a shopper," the report stated. "After several minutes he goes back to the toy section."

The suspect seen in the video is described as: a white male; approximately 40 years old; wearing a lime green shirt, khaki pants and black shoes; having a large belly, brown hair and a well-kept beard.

Patch has requested additional information, including a photo of the suspect in the video, as well as updated information as to whether someone has been arrested.

We will update this story as needed.
