News From the Walton County Seat

Spotlight on Monroe - Hollywood comes to town.

If anybody has any business to attend to in the seat over the next couple of days, it might be a good idea to bypass downtown Monroe while attempting to do so. The middle of town has become a giant movie set for the filing of the fourth installment of the “American Pie” franchise and streets are closed off with detour signs up all around town.

According to The Walton Tribune, Monroe is being converted to a fictional town in Michigan, East Great Falls. The Mike Cash store has a mural on the side that advertises a waterfall just a few blocks out of town and a couple of other stores have been given a facelift to depict the fictional Michigan town.

The fourth “American Pie” movie, titled “American Reunion,” is being filmed in and around Atlanta with the Monroe scenes scheduled to be shot Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Streets reportedly due to be closed are Broad Street from Highland Avenue south to Washington Street and Spring Street from Wayne to Lumpkin streets.

The inconvenience, however, can be weighed against the interest in how traditional Hollywood functions in downtown Monroe. Interested bystanders could be found Thursday seated in the rocking chairs outside Mike Cash’s store taking in the action.

“American Reunion,” staring Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Sean William Scott, Katrina Bowden, Shannon Elizabeth, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Tara Reid and Eugene Levy, is scheduled to be released April 6 2012.
