Rick Santorum Suspends Campaign

Fox News announced that Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum held a press conference announcing the suspension of his campaign. Get full details from press conference on Fox News.

Santorum finished third behind Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney in both Gwinnett and Walton Counties in .

A response from the local community on the announcement has been mixed. From a simple “Goodbye and good riddance” from Grant Mackay of Loganville, to others already weighing in on Mitt Romney’s chances in November now that he is the inevitable nominee.

“While I was not overly fond of ANY of the GOP candidates, I have felt that Romney was the only one with a chance of beating (President Barack) Obama, and that is what is of top concern to me this year,” Robin Jungbluth wrote on the Loganville-Grayson Facebook page. “As for VP choices, there’s several that would work. He needs to pick one that can pull in the vote from the conservatives who were more in favor of Santorum”

Damyn Swanepoel said he first choice for VP would be Allen West (US representative from Florida), adding that the next few months are going to be tough for Romney as the obvious Republican candidate.

“Mitt will have to have some broad shoulders in the next few months,” he said. “The wrath of the Obama machine is going to havve guns a blazing in Romney’s direction. These will be the times that test men’s souls.”

Joan Hobbie Todd wrote, "There is NO good candidate and for the first time since I turned 18 i may not vote for any of them. Romney is clueless about the middle class, hates the unions and the poor..and in my opinion is completely un-American! We're stuck with four more years of the status quo."
