Alpharetta Man Indicted for Marietta Square Killing

The owner of the Laziza restaurant has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.

Alpharetta Man Indicted for Marietta Square Killing

A Cobb Grand Jury has indicted an Alpharetta man for the apparently accidental shooting death of another man at a Marietta Square restaurant in November.

Raouf Sanad, 63, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, according to Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds.

Investigators believe that Wael Ali was showing a gun to Sanad late in the evening of Nov. 1 at the Laziza Restaurant, when Sanad accidentally pointed the gun at Ali and pulled the trigger, assuming that the safety was on.

Ali, 25, died at the scene, according to Marietta Police.

Sanad, the owner of Laziza and an Ali family friend, has been in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center since his arrest on the night of the shooting, and there is an immigration hold on his release.

An arraignment hearing for Sanad has not been scheduled.

In 2011, Ali had been charged in the homicide of his twin brother in Maryland, but a mistrial was declared the following year. Ali and his mother moved to the Marietta area to get a fresh start on their lives.

Ali was laid to rest next to Wasel Ali, who was found strangled to death in 2007 near a shopping mall in the suburban Baltimore area.
