Sinkhole Opens in Midtown Street: Report

Crews are at the scene, just north of Ponce De Leon Avenue.

ATLANTA, GA — Crews are working to fill in a sinkhole that opened up early Friday morning and closed down a Midtown street. It was caused by a water main break near a construction site, according to a media report.

The underground pipe burst on Monroe Circle, near the intersection of Monroe Drive, just after midnight Friday morning, flooding the road with water, WGCL-TV CBS 46 reported. The site of the water main break is just north of Ponce De Leon Avenue.

Water has been shut off to the area, and 10 homes are without water service as a result of the break, CBS 46 reported.
