News Nearby: Police Believe Man Stabbed Girlfriend, Then Shot Himself in Head

Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend, then shot himself in the head after an apparent argument early Sunday morning in unincorporated Snellville.

The woman, who was stabbed in the back, survived the attack, but the man died, according to a media alert emailed by Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera.

“The death of the male is being investigated as a suicide. The female is not a suspect in his death,” Pihera reported.

The incident occurred after midnight Sunday morning, May 12, in the 3800 block of White Pine Road, near the intersection of Centerville Rosebud Road and Lenna Drive.

According to the media alert, police arrived on scene at 1:15 a.m. after a man called to say he had stabbed his girlfriend and help was needed.

When they arrived, police heard a person screaming for help inside and they forced their way inside the house. They found the woman face-down in the kitchen with a stab wound on her back.

The man also was found in the kitchen with a fatal gunshot to his head.

"According to the female victim, she and the male victim had gotten into an argument just prior to the incident," said Pihera in the emailed statement.

The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No other information was available.
