Series of Car Break-Ins Reported in Oak Grove Area

Thieves have broken into three cars in the Oak Grove area since Sunday, DeKalb County police said. Personal checks were stolen in two of the incidents.

A digital camera, a GPS and two checks–all valued at about $770–were stolen from a car parked in a carport at the 2800 block of Cartwright Drive sometime between 10pm Sunday and 8:40am Monday, according to the police report. Police do not know how the thief got into the car.

Also on Monday, another victim from the same block called police after a Wells Fargo bank teller called him at about 10am to ask if he had authorized another man to cash a $642 check against his account, the report said. He told the teller he had not and later discovered someone had broken into his truck, which was unlocked, and took two checks–one of which was later forged–and four pieces of work equipment.

On Tuesday, a third victim from the nearby 3000 block of Anderson Place called police and reported her laptop stolen from her car. The woman told police she went outside and placed her laptop inside her car as she was getting ready to leave at about 7:30am, the report said. She walked back inside the home for about 15 minutes, and when she returned to her car, the computer was gone. She told police the car had been unlocked but was parked under her carport.
