Regional Roundup: Walton Inmate Overdoses, Investigation into Snellville Shooting, and Pounds of Marijuana Found in Cartersville Traffic Stop

Inmate Overdoses While Jailed in Walton County-- Loganville-Grayson Patch

According to The Walton Tribune, a woman jailed in the Walton County Detention Center has committed suicide with pills hidden her vagina at the time of her arrest. Yvonne Parker, 40, of 1422 Virginia Way, Monroe, was arrested Feb. 3 during a traffic stop and was charged of possession of roxicodone with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act. The Walton Tribune reports she was also facing charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act. Parker is reported to have been arrested on her way back from Kentucky after making a delivery.

After initially being hospitalized for ingesting a large number of pills at the time of her arrest, Parker was transported to the Walton County jail for booking. Parker allegedly did not undergo a cavity search at that time. Authorities believe she later removed some of the pills hidden in her vagina and swallowed enough to result in her death. The remainder of the pills were found during an autopsy. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reportedly investigating the incident, which is initially being classified as a suicide.

Police said the wound appeared to not be life-threatening.

The shooting allegedly took place at a nearby apartment complex, Orion at Killian Creek, located at 2300 Country Walk in Snellville, officials said in the press statement.

However, officers were unable to determine where the crime scene was. In addition, the police spokesman said it was unclear how the man was shot, who was responsible or why the incident happened.

Police: Pounds of Weed in Traffic Stop – Cartersville Patch

A traffic stop due to malfunctioning tag lights and a  Cartersville police officer's keen sense of smell last Thursday led to the discovery of about 3.5 pounds of suspected marijuana.

An officer stopped a white Pontiac Firebird, driven by Mario Monroe Howard and picked up on a strong odor coming from the car and suspected it was marijuana. In the floorboard near a juvenile passenger, officials say they found a book bag containing five plastic bags of marijuana.

Police arrested Howard on accusations he violated the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, drove on a canceled license, contributed to the delinquency of a minor and operated a vehicle with no tag lights.
