Aurora Theatre Seeks Spanish Speaking Actors for Teatro del Sol

Aurora Theatre Seeks Spanish Speaking Actors for Teatro del Sol

Aurora Theatre’s Teatro del Sol is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Mariela in the Desert by Karen Zacarías. The beautifully lyrical play is set in the desert of Northern Mexico in 1950.

Artists Mariela and José are living an isolated existence, haunted by the ghost of their young son. José is very ill and Mariela sends a telegram to their daughter encouraging her to come home. Where once the walls were beautifully decorated, now only one painting remains, and it is shrouded in mystery.

This is an open casting call. Teatro del Sol is looking for actors who speak and read fluent Spanish and are between the ages of 21 and 65 to fill the roles. At the helm of the production will be nationally renowned director Tlaloc Rivas.

The auditions are scheduled for Monday, January 6 and Tuesday, January 7, 2014 with rehearsals beginning March 18, 2014. The show will run from April 10 - 27, 2014. All positions are paid.

About Teatro del Sol

Founded by Aurora Theatre Producing Artistic Director, Anthony P. Rodriguez, Teatro del Sol is a Spanish language theatre initiative whose goal is the preservation of Hispanic cultural heritage. For the past three years, Teatro del Sol has produced a professional theatrical production in April gaining international acclaim including multiple appearances on CNN Español. According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, Gwinnett is the most diverse county in the Southeastern United States and many cultures whose native language is Spanish are represented in the community. As a first generation American of Cuban decent, Mr. Rodriguez saw the need to serve this large local demographic as a fundamental passion.
