Woman Killed When Car Swept Into Gwinnett County Creek Identified

Authorities have identified a woman who died when her car was washed away during heavy rain in Gwinnett County as Fawzia Jamshidi, 57, from Loganville.

Her battered car was lifted out of Jackson Creek off Harbins Road in unincorporated Lilburn around 8:30 p.m. Monday, nearly eight hours after witnesses saw the car swept into the water.

"(The car) was just diving straight down into the water. It was headed straight down into the water," witness George Ruiz told WSB-TV.

Rescuers swam and used inflatable boats and long poles, finding the car about 4 p.m.

"The vehicle was found by our swift water team a little bit farther down the river and it was in the area where there was a lot of debris. The victim was found inside of the vehicle and was deceased," Gwinnett County Fire Department Lt. Colin Rhoden told the station.
