The fourth grade students created a habitat at River Eves Elementary School. We began last October. This project was inspired by STEM. STEM helped us through the process of creating the habitat. If you do not know what STEM is, it stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
First, we had to think about what we wanted to put in our habitat. We asked ourselves would it have enough water, food, space and sunlight. Next, we found the perfect location. It was in front of the school.

“Now we have to think about what we want to take out or change,” said Ms. Lyles, our science teacher. Then, we researched birdbaths. We selected the perfect one. In addition, we added a bird feeder and a bird house.
If you were wondering how we chose our habitat, our teacher instructed us to take a vote on which location we felt was best. We listed the pros and cons of three locations. We considered food, water, sunlight and shelter for the animals. Student traffic was also a consideration.

Building a habitat with my 4th grade friends was very exciting. We learned lots of cool new things! The process of building a habitat took all year. It was a very successful project.
