36 Cartons of Cigarettes Stolen From Dollar Store

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Editor’s note: the following incidents were taken from the Sandy Springs Police Department’s Weekly Wrap Up compiled by Capt. Steve Rose, which contains some — not all — of the incidents that occurred July 2-7.

Burglary
- 6000 block Wright Circle, 30328, 7/2: The victim was moving from the home and said his Bang and Olufsen Stereo valued at $3,500 was stolen.
- 4000 block of Harris Trail, 30327, 7/3: The victim said two guns, a watch, computer, and a painting were taken.
- 100 block of Summer Drive, 30328, 7/3: The resident called in a burglary-in-progress just after 8 p.m. She said a male kicked in the front door while she and friends were in the home. She said the suspect was the same man she and her friends saw earlier (30 minutes) arguing with a woman. Nothing was taken. He is described as a black male, 30 years old, 5’-7” wearing a brown T-shirt. The woman was described as a black female, 5’-8” and 130 pounds wearing a flowery dress.
- 8000 block of Roswell Road, 30350, 7/4: A contracting company employee said someone attempted to force entry overnight by shattering a large pane glass window. The window was 3⁄4 inches thick which apparently prohibited the suspect from entering. Nothing was taken.
- 4000 block of Lake Forrest Drive, 30342, 7/6: The victim said between 8:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., he was gone. He received a call from his alarm company that the alarm had activated so he drove home. He found forced entry through a carport window. Inside there was evidence of the burglar going through drawers. Missing is a prescription bottle.
- 8775 Roswell Road, 30350, 7/6 (Dollar Store): The complainant said that around 7:30 p.m., someone accessed the rear door and stole 36 cartons of cigarettes, then fled when the door-alarm activated and alerted the front area employee.
- River Park Drive, 30328, 7/7: The resident said she located a white iPhone on her driveway upon returning home. She soon found out that a carport door was open via forced entry. Missing are several items. The phone had some Instagram messages on it allowing the detectives to obtain the username of the phone’s owner. That is being investigated.
Thefts

- 800 block of Stratford Court, 30350, 7/2: The victim said his bike was stolen from his garage. The door had been left up (open).
- 6300 blk Roswell Road, 30328, 7/2: The victim was shopping at Aldi and reported her cellphone was stolen after she placed it down somewhere. The found was later located a short distance away smashed.
- 1155 Perimeter Center West, 30328, 7/5: A man reported his white iPhone stolen from a trade floor.
- Kilmory Close, 30350, 7/5: The resident’s neighbor called her and said she saw a car with a white male driver, pull up to her mailbox, get out, and then took mail from the victim’s mailbox. She said the car may have been a Chevy Impala. This happened about 5 p.m.
- 144 Allen Road, 30328, 7/6: A 73-year-old woman said someone stole her kidney medication (Tobiaz) from her kitchen table.
- 1140 Hammond Drive, 30328, 7/6: A 31-year-old woman reported that someone took $200 from her purse located in her work desk.
- 100 block of Jefferson Drive, 30350, 7/6: The victim said he and his girlfriend lived at this address. He went to New York City for a month and upon return found the girlfriend gone, along with her belongings that include furniture, and some of his belongings, including an $1,800 heat press for T-shirts and an envelope with the victim’s personal information that was taken from a closet.
- 4540 Roswell Road, 30342, 7/6: A store employee said that around 3 p.m. a black male, driving a white Mercedes, pulled up and took a Felt Tri Bike off the display bike rack, stuffed it in his back seat and drove away.
- A 34-year-old man on Brentwood Way (30350) said on July 4 he was in the Waffle House on
Northridge Road and invited four women, all of whom were dancers at Flashers, back to his apartment. They agreed and stayed the night (most of it anyway) at his apartment. The next morning he woke and found that the girls were gone. Four watches were taken along with a life-vest computer, valued at $19,000 that is always worn (don’t know if by him or not) due to likely hood of a heart attack. He said one of the woman’s name is “Storm.”

- 400 block West Spalding Dr., 30328, 7/2: Nothing taken +2 additional reports
- 100 block of Devonwood Dr., 30328, 7/2: Gun (Sig P-250, backpack)
- 200 block of Dartmoor Cir., 30328, 7/2: Nothing taken
- 200 block of Devonwood, 30328, 7/2: Rayban sunglasses
- 700 block Hammond Drive, 30328, 7/2: Wallet and $400 cash
- 5000 block Pinebrook Rd., 30328, 7/3: gas siphoned
- 2000 block Jefferson Dr., 30350, 7/5: house/car keys, headphones
- 900 block Crestline Pkwy, 30342, 7/6: iPad
Assault
- Northwood Drive, 30342, 7/4: A Hispanic male was found by officers lying on the ground near an apartment. The man said he was beat up by “Amigo Garcia.” The officers discovered that at least five males were in the apartment and at one point a fight broke out. The victim apparently tried to break it up but was sucker-punched from behind. Alcohol was involved.
- 1005 Crestline Pkwy, 30342, 7/5: A 23-year-old female reported that she was assaulted by one of two friends who accompanied her to the Hyatt Hotel. She said she went there to “make money and buy some drugs.” She was intoxicated and could not provide the room number the suspects were in. She had some facial swelling and was taken to the hospital where she was described as “uncooperative.” The victim’s mother was contacted and said her daughter is addicted to pain pills.
- 8111 Roswell Road, 30350, 7/5: The complainant said he was at a meeting place and was approached by another man who he said tries to start an argument with him at every meeting. The victim said the man approached him, said “Shut the f---k up!” then punched him four times with his fist. He said the suspect’s name is “John” but doesn’t know his last name. He said he lives in a nearby apartment complex.
Fraud
- 8359 Roswell Road, 30350, 7/4: Dollar Store employee reported a man tried to pay with a counterfeit $20 bill. He fled in a black Chevy Equinox. The tag was obtained. He is a white male, late teens, white/navy shirt with stars on it.
- 1000 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, 7/5: A 39-year-old limo driver said a man, whom he knew from previous rides, called him and wanted him to drive him to Miami. He said he lost his wallet and would write him a check (He always paid in cash before). He gave the driver a $2,300 check. When they got to Gainesville, Florida, he gave the driver an additional $1,900 dollars, all of which were on bad checks. The driver was suspicious so when they arrived in Miami, he phoned the cops but the suspect fled. He apparently had warrants on him from Texas as well.
- A 61-year-old man said someone set up a bank account with his personal information and then
transferred $1,900, then $2,000, from the victim’s other bank account before the victim discovered the fraud. - A 24-year-old woman said she went on the website “wallapop” to purchase an iPhone listed for sale by a
man named Richard V. She agreed to pay $150 towards the phone, then the balance after the phone was delivered. He took the initial payment then blocked her from calling. She said the phone is still listed on the site and there are probably other victims.
Other Things
- 1000 block of Brentwood Way, 30350, 7/6: The complainant said that just before 1 a.m. he was asleep and heard someone outside his window. He sat up and watched for a couple of minutes. He saw a silhouette near the window so he hit the window with his hand, causing the suspect to run off. The blinds were closed so no description was obtained.
- A man reported that he and another man were arguing about the complainant’s sexual orientation and at some point the other man shut a door on the complainant’s arm, saying “He smashed the door on me.” The officer noted the arm looked okay.
Arrests
- 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 7/3: Target staff detained a woman for taking makeup from the store and attempting to leave without paying. The staff said she has been suspected of previous shoplifting thefts and knew who she was when she entered. She said she tried to return the item but the store refused. She got mad and to show her displeasure with Target, she stole, and did so poorly, the item. She was released on a copy of charges pending a court date.
- 500 block of Cimarron Pkwy, 30350, 7/5: An officer spotted a man whom he knew was wanted on criminal warrants. He radioed for a backup and then pulled the man’s car over. He was arrested on warrants for Cobb County on probation violations (family violence) Alpharetta on failure to appear on traffic charges, Gwinnett County on probation violations (family violence) and about 15-partially smoked joints in his car.
- 8600 Roberts Drive, 30350, 7/5: An officer spotted a man whom he knew was a suspect in several thefts from cars. The officer had recently been advised by detectives that they had a case on several thefts they were concluding on the suspect. He was later arrested on loitering charges pending warrants on theft charges.
- 5570 Roswell Road, 30342, 7/6 (Target): Just after 5 p.m. the complainant (security) called police regarding a shoplifting in progress. The security guy said the man went into the dressing room with several store items. The cops entered the store and waited for the man to exit the room — which he did. The items were gone and, as noted in the report, the man had a large bulge in his pants. The officers assumed this was not because he was happy to see them but rather the end result of concealing items for the purpose of theft. He was detained and produced a video camera used for doorbells. He was later arrested.
