Fulton County is losing too many seniors who are moving away from Fulton County because of "high taxes."

That's according to House District 52 candidate Deborah Silcox, a Republican who's running in the May 24 primary election.

“As our new state representative, I will support local legislation that will exempt senior citizens who are age 65 or older from paying school property taxes,” said Silcox. “So many of our seniors in Fulton County, particularly retired people who are on fixed incomes, are suffering from property tax increases and higher assessments, and many are moving away.”

Silcox's proposal will be offset by growth in the tax digest that will result from the addition of thousands of new homes and condominiums that are being built across the county.

“There is no need to cut the school budget as we provide tax relief to senior citizens,” she continued. “There will be no need to raise taxes on homeowners under age 65 either, because projected growth in the tax digest will more than offset the cost of the exemption.”
