Commuters Favor More Rail Transit in North Metro Areas

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos has said that she is committed to a regional transit system and now a new study shows that commuters favor a rail system in north metro Atlanta, according to a WSB-TV News report.

Grady Smith, Transportation Group Manager for The Jacobs Group, which conducted the study, said the best system would have the MARTA Red Line run from North Springs to Holcomb Bridge Road.

Those areas are only two exits apart on Ga. 400 but the study also included a rail line from Kennesaw to Cumberland Mall, and over to Perimeter Mall.

Georgia Department of Transportation and business owners from Community Improvement Districts funded the study.

Galambos recently told the Sandy Springs Planning Commission that the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority decided to focus on the Beltway, instead of a  regional transit.

“We were not happy about that,” she said. “We’re hoping that there will be a re-direction…we want regional [transit] that connects counties, cities.”
