North Springs Student Renovates Food Pantry for Eagle Scout Project

Norths Springs sophomore and Boy Scout Harrison Franklin recently completed an Eagle Scout project at the Community Assistance Center. The project upgraded the Food Pantry Entrance/Client Waiting Area.

“I was volunteering at CAC’s food pantry and I saw the waiting area needed some work so I decided to do my Eagle Scout project here because it’s used by a lot of people and it would make a big impact,” said Franklin, 16, a Boy Scout with Troop 266 from Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

He recruited 10 volunteers to help. They painted walls, scraped floors, installed baseboards, repaired a hole in the wall, and added a storage area for cardboard boxes.

A carpenter installed a new counter at the pick-up window and the electrical outlet for the fan. Many of his materials were donated and he raised some funds to purchase the remaining needed materials.

The work took about 100 hours during weekends in November and December. 

Franklin has just two more merit badges to earn to qualify for the Eagle Scout rank.
