Sandy Springs Blotter: Delivery Driver Ambushed In Armed Robbery

Robbery

  • 200 block of Peachtree Hollow Ct., 30328, May 16: A 23-year-old man said that just after 4 a.m. he was walking on Peachtree Dunwoody Road when he was approached by car that stopped next to him. The driver asked if he needed a ride. He told the man no. The man then asked if he smoked marijuana. The victim said he did not. The man then pulled a gun, pointed it at him and demanded his wallet. The victim gave him his wallet containing nothing but two dollars. The suspect looked at it and gave it back — taking nothing. He told the victim that if the cops found his fingerprints on it, he’d kill the man who he did not know but came upon at 4 a.m. The suspect then drove away. The victim described the suspect as a black male, around 25 years old, freckles and shoulder length hair. The car was described only as black.
  • 8017 Roswell Road, 30350, May 17: A delivery driver said he delivered an order from Jojo’s Wings, to an apartment at Dunwoody Pointe Apartments. No one answered at the door so the driver phoned the call-back number and was then approached by two men from the parking lot area. One said he left his keys downstairs and turned as if to walk down the stairway but then turned around holding a silver semi-auto pistol. They took the driver’s iPhone and the food. The suspects are two black males around the age of 25. Both were around six feet tall and slim.

  • 6940 Roswell Road, 30328, May 13: Sometime between the 12th and 13th, someone entered the condo, without forced entry, and took a 55-inch Samsung TV and a Bose audio system. The loss is about $3800. The victim was in the process of moving out.
  • Harris Trail, 30342, May 13: A resident reported that between May 1-9 someone entered her garage and took items from it.
  • 9000 block of Gables Lane, 30350, May 13 (2100-2145): The resident said someone kicked in his door and took an iPad, SKS 7.62 rifle, and an Xbox game system.
  • 1100 block of Hammond Drive, 30328, May 13 (1000-2245): The resident said someone forced the deadbolt open and entered the apartment. A pair of sunglasses were taken. The officer noted that the resident said if the perp was caught, she would not prosecute. Capt. Steve Rose says: “Well…….first of all, if we do find this dude, we’re going to prosecute him (assuming it’s a him).”
  • 7000 block of Glisten Avenue, 30328, May 14: A 54-year-old woman reported that someone took several pieces of silver from her residence sometime between Feb. 15 and May 14.
  • 1160 Hammond Drive, 30328, May 14: A resident manager said they evicted a woman after three months of non-payments. When the Marshal’s Department entered to remove the items, it was discovered that most of the apartment’s appliances were gone.
  • 3000 block of The Valley, 30328, May 14 (0900-1650): The resident said someone broke into his apartment and took a laptop. An additional burglary was discovered in the 5200 block of The Valley.
  • 6370 Powers Ferry Road, 30342, May 15: An alarm call activated around 2:30 a.m. Responding officers found smashed windows on the business (Subway) and evidence that the location was burglarized. (A small amount of cash was later reported.) The perp(s) left behind some blood which was swabbed and entered as evidence.
  • 4000 block of Spalding Forest Ct., 30328, May 15: The victim found his apartment door kicked in and his Xbox game system stolen.
  • 6800 block Peachtree Dunwoody Road, 30328, May 15: The resident said he arrived home from work and found his door kicked open. Missing is a 32-inch Sharp LED TV.
  • Other Burglaries: 200 block of Winding River Drive, 30350, May 15; 4700 block of Spring Creek Lane, 30350, May 16; 3600 block of The Valley, 30328, May 17; 4300 block of Glenridge Stratton Drive, 30342, May 17; 5400 block of Glenridge Drive, 30342, May 18; 226 Johnson Ferry Road, 30342, May 19.

Thefts

  • 805 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, May 13: A construction manager reported stolen tools from the Holy Innocents School construction area sometime between the 8th and 10th of May.
  • 57 Trowbridge Road, 30350, May 15: Someone stole the golf cart belonging to the Marquis at Perimeter Apartments. A resident reported seeing a man take the cart. It is beige in color with a soft plastic cover (top) and valued at $5000. The suspect was described as a kid, black male, five feet, skinny, afro hair style, white shirt and jean shorts. The cart was located a short time later, on the sidewalk of Spalding Drive, by a patrol officer.
  • 6509 Roswell Road, 30328, May 13: The manager for Budget Rent-a-Car reported that a truck was rented on March 30 with a return date of April 1. After several efforts to recover the truck and failed correspondence to the renter, they reported it stolen.
  • On May 13, Target employees reported that a man came in with a fraudulent Travelers Check for $100 and purchased an item for $15, receiving $85 in change. He did so again, with another fake TC and received $90 in change. He was described as a black male, 5’-8” and 185 pounds. He wore black pants and a white shirt.
  • Enclave Circle, 30350, May 13: A 67-year-old woman reported that she hired a moving company to move into her new home in February of this year. According to the victim, the company employed homeless men from a shelter, to move. Not only that but they used different homeless men each day for the move that lasted ten days. She is missing 16 solid gold Olympic Coins and a Movado Watch.
  • 1140 Hammond Drive, 30328, May 14: An employee of Uncle Julio’s Restaurant reported that someone took his wallet from the employee area. The perp used the victim’s debit card to make deposits totaling $4489 into fake Navy Federal Credit Union accounts. The deposits were made on the 12th of May at an undisclosed location.
  • A 42-year-old man on Brentwood Way reported that on May 9th he invited a man over whom he had connected with on a dating website. The victim said at some point, the man named Danny, swiped his class ring before leaving. The man has an address in Norcross, GA.
  • A woman in the 6900 block of Roswell Road reported that $1625 cash was stolen from her purse. Her sister and sister’s boyfriend stayed the night. She suspects the boyfriend because she knows the pair had financial problems.
  • 8000 block of Roswell Road, 30350, May 15: A man reported several gift cards were taken from his office desk drawer.
  • 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy, 30328, May 15: A 24-year-old man reported he was playing basketball at LA Fitness courts with his friend. They placed their gym bags near the court. During that time, someone got into both bags and took their personal items including two wallets, an iPhone 6, credit cards, and over $300 cash.
  • A man on Stewart Drive reported that someone stole his Rolex Watch that belonged to his grandfather and which was in a safe, inside a desk drawer, locked. The victim said he has two roommates who know about the watch but who did not have access to the safe. The watch had been taken and replaced by one of those fake Rolex Watches that you can buy for twenty bucks from the guy on the sidewalk.
  • An employee of Samad Grill at 8897 Roswell Road reported that on the 19th, his store video picked up two young black males, 16-18 years old, stealing and running out of the restaurant with the tip jar containing about $40.

Assault

  • Spring Creek Lane, 30350, May 13: A 29-year-old woman said her child’s father, who is no longer with her having moved out just under a month ago, came over to visit their 5-month-old child. She fell asleep while he was in the apartment. During that time, he went through her phone, finding messages from another man and as such, became angry and spit in her face, followed by punching her in the eye, causing swelling and bleeding. He then fled the area.
  • 6200 block of PDR, 30328, May 13: A 27-year-old woman said her boyfriend assaulted her in the vehicle as they were arriving at a hotel. She suffered a cut lip, bump on the head, and a shoulder cut. The offender then fled.

Other Things

  • A 27-year-old woman reported that she noticed a Chevy Avalanche vehicle parked outside of her residence as she was leaving for work just after 8 a.m. The car followed her to her place of employment in Sandy Springs. Around 5:30 p.m. she noticed the same truck following. She noted the truck almost wrecked a couple of times trying to keep up with her. The same truck was seen the following morning. The complainant did get the tag and it is being investigated.
  • A 29-year-old woman reported her former boyfriend, father of her five-year old child, and whom she is involved in a court issue with in Cobb County, sent her a text reading “I hope you die in a house fire.”

Fraud

  • The manager of the Dunwoody Place Apartments at 6850 PDR reported that an apartment resident paid two month’s rent with a fraudulent credit card. Rent charges were $1397 and $1246.

Arrests

  • Just after midnight, cops got a call of suspicious persons at the Foxcroft Condos. They found a car and smelled marijuana. They found two guys lying in their seats — apparently trying to be invisible. Didn’t work. Cops asked if they had weed. They said no, although the pungent smell surrounded the car. The officer called K-9. The dog arrived. (He didn’t drive. Dogs can’t drive.) The guys gave up the weed, small amount. They were cited and released. One called him mommy to come get the car.
