Sandy Springs youngest gymnasts now have a new place to tumble and jump. The Recreation and Parks Department unveiled its new preschool gymnastics center at Hammond Park, Thursday.

The new facility is designed for children ages 5 and under, and provides more intimate space for closer supervision by instructors, as well as smaller scaled bars, rings beam, trampoline and mats.

“The smaller scaled equipment allows not only for a wide variety of skill development, but safer execution of progressions," said Ronnie Young, Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Director. "It also separates our preschoolers from older gymnasts who can be distracting when they perform what our younger students see as ‘cool tricks.’”

Another benefit to the addition is the ability to increase the gymnastics program. With the extra space, student capacity can now reach 600 students. The renovations cost the city $60,000 to complete.
