SWAT Standoff Ends, Man Taken Into Custody
A man has been taken into custody after barricading himself inside his home during a SWAT standoff that occurred early Thursday morning in Sandy Springs.

Edward Quenzer has been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for a "mental evaluation," said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Ron Momon.

Sandy Springs police and North Metro SWAT responded to a call of a gunman at a home at 1215 Old Woodbine Road in the southern end of the city.

Just before 10 p.m., Quenzer's mother told police he "threatened her with a Taser type stun gun after she contacted police regarding his irrational behavior," Momon stated.

The woman told officers her son had been displaying symptoms of schizophrenia and paranoia. Surrounding residents were evacuated and negotiations continued throughout the overnight hours.

Quenzer was eventually taken into custody without incident.
