A Railroad Track's Final Days A Railroad Track's Final Days

If you've been down Main Street in Stone Mountain Village today, you probably noticed some de-construction going on: crews are removing the tracks that were put in years ago for the New Georgia Railroad, part of the Olympic Games in 1996.

The intersection of Main Street and Mimosa is temporarily closed; the functioning CSX-owned railroad track nearby is not affected.

The track to be removed includes a particularly rough section near the Stone Mountain Village Visitors Center, said city manager Barry Amos, who came out to observe the work.

He said once the track is gone, the areas will be paved on Thursday and Friday and traffic patterns should soon be back to normal, except for one thing: driving across those sections will be much, much smoother.
