Photos: Clarkston Farmers Market

The first Clarkston Farmers Market was held Sunday, displaying the area's cultural diversity as well as fresh vegetables, frozen treats and crafts.

There was more to the new farmers market in nearby Clarkston than fresh fare.

It was also a celebration of the cultural diversity of the area.

From the Burundi Drummers to baskets made by a Bhutan crafter, the effort  -- behind the Clarkston Community Center (next to the Clarkston Library on Indian Creek) -- was a melting pot of different backgrounds as well as a variety of fresh fare.

Area gardeners also displayed their harvest, there were chickens on hand for people  to observe and hold, kids' crafts to recycle from used items such as egg cartons and a tour of the flourishing community garden.

From June - October, the markets will be held on the last Sunday of the month.
