Falcons' Turner Apologizes for 'Bad Decision'

The starting running back expects to remain in the lineup in the wake of his DUI arrest in Gwinnett.

Falcons' Turner Apologizes for 'Bad Decision'

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner has apologized to the organization for his DUI and speeding arrest early Tuesday in Gwinnett.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Turner said, “I’d like to apologize to Mr. Blank, Thomas Dimitroff, Mike Smith and the whole Falcons organization and the fans out there for the situation that I’m in right now. It was a bad decision on my part."

What actions do you feel the Falcons should take toward Michael Turner? Tell us in the comments below.

Turner, a Suwanee resident, was arrested early Tuesday by Gwinnett Police on northbound I-85 in unincorporated Norcross. Turner told the arresting officer that he drank "approximately 5 shots" at Magic City, an Atlanta strip club. Turner had gone to Magic City after playing in Monday's Falcons victory over Denver in the Georgia Dome.

He initially was stopped for doing 97 mph in a 65 mph zone. The DUI charge came after the arresting officer noticed an "odor" of alcohol coming from Turner's breath.

The violation will lead to Turner entering the league’s substance abuse program as a first-time offender, the AJC reported. If Turner doesn’t have any additional problems, he could eventually be dismissed from the program. If he has another alcohol related arrest, he could be suspended and face a fine from the league.

Head Coach Smith, who met with Turner on Tuesday, said he was "disappointed" by Turner's arrest. He would not comment further on Turner's status, citing the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association.

The Falcons play at San Diego on Sunday.

“Nobody has told me that I’m not playing so, I’m just going to prepare like I am (playing),” Turner said.
