McClain's Gwinnett BOC Reaction: 'Godspeed!'

Laurie McClain, who was defeated in Tuesday's primary election for the Gwinnett BOC District 1 seat, congratulated her opponent Tuesday on his victory.

"Yesterday was the culmination of three years of preparation and dedication to a cause that I thought was crucial to Gwinnett. Although we came up short, I am so proud of my friends, my supporters, and my volunteers for sticking by me through it all," McClain, a Suwanee accountant, said in a Facebook post.

McClain got 45.9 percent of the votes cast Tuesday, to 54 percent for Jace Brooks, a former Suwanee City Council member. A total of 12,212 votes were cast in the race. The race was too close to call late Tuesday evening.

Brooks will take office in 2013.

McClain, a Duluth resident, was seeking public elected office for the first time. She had some exposure to the 2012 Gwinnett County budget process.

Her message continued: "It just wasn't God's plan for me right now and I'm looking forward to the bigger and better things He has in store for me. I'm confident that District 1 will be well represented by Jace Brooks and that finally we can regain the voters' trust on our commission. Godspeed!"
