Former Tucker Wrestler Earns All-American Status

Carey Cloud, a former wrestling state champion, fought his way to an eighth place finish in the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa to earn All-American accolades as freshman for William Penn University.

Cloud finished his freshman campaign with a 16-11 overall record after going 4-3 in the 149-pound weigh class of the National Championship Tournament. A tough 3-2 overtime loss in the second round to Dickinson State’s Bradley Steele dropped him into the loser’s bracket where he put together three consecutive wins, including an overtime fall over Nicolas Clarke of York to earn All-American status.

He dropped his final two matches of the tournament including a second loss to Steele in the seventh place match.

Cloud, a 2011 graduate of Tucker, won the 2010 Class AAAA state title in the 152-pound class and was runner-up in the 145 Class AAAA state tournament as he just missed out on becoming a two-time state champion.

He finished his DeKalb County career by becoming just the fifth county wrestler to win four county individual championships (2008-2011).
