On this day, church members remember
St. Francis' love for all creatures as they gather in the park for worship and the blessing of their beloved, animal friends. You are invited to bring your four-legged, furry (or two-legged, feathered) companions.
There will be singing, prayers, scripture reading, and a short message by Grace UMC pastor, Rev. Kate Floyd. That will be followed by the blessing of the animals.
The service will be held just inside the park at the Charles Allen Drive/10th Street entrance. Ample seating and blankets for the lawn will be available.
All are welcome to park at Grace UMC, located at 458 Ponce de Leon Avenue, and then walk the half mile to the park. Shuttle service will be available to those who are unable to make the walk. Shuttles will run from the church parking lot from 10:30-10:45 a.m.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the church sanctuary. If the weather is questionable, check the Grace UMC Facebook wall for last minute weather updates.
North Decatur Presbyterian Church will also hold a Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday with donations going to support animal rescue groups. The service will be at 11 a.m. at the church at the corner of Medlock, Scott and North Decatur roads.
Donations of gently used leashes, collars, blankets, pet foods and meds are being accepted.
