Man Fatally Shot In Virginia Highland Late Thursday Night

A man was fatally shot late Thursday night in Virginia Highland at a neighborhood convenience store.

"The preliminary investigation suggests that this was a possible robbery attempt," Atlanta Police spokesperson Officer Kim Jones told Patch Friday morning.

Police responded to a person-shot call at a convenience store at 744 Barnett Street, shortly after 10:15 pm Thursday night, Jones said. When the officer arrived, "he noticed that the victim was laying outside the location on the ground, semi-conscious," Jones said.

Jones said the victim was transported to Grady Hospital, where he later died.

Channel 2 Action News is reporting that the victim was 46-year-old Mushtaq Moloo, the owner of . The store is located is located at 730 Barnett Street, near the intersection of Barnett and Ponce de Leon Avenue.

The station is also reporting that a baseball bat was found in the street near where Moloo was found.

According to 11Alive, police said the victim walked into a food mart near the 1000 block of Ponce de Leon Avenue and asked for help.
