Streets Alive and Other Weekend Fun


There's a lot going on in and around Virginia-Highland and Druid Hills this weekend. Here are some suggestions to get you out and about:

Atlanta Streets Alive

When/Where: Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m. at N Highland Ave. NE & Virginia Ave. NE

Why Go: Atlanta Streets Alive will feature almost five miles of car-free community space to ride your bike, walk, play and dance.

Activities including local acoustic musicians, a capella groups, marching bands and classes (such as Salsa, Yoga and Zumba), will extend down two miles of North Highland, over one mile of Virginia Avenue, two miles of the brand new Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail, and complete a loop at Elizabeth Street and Highland Avenue. Streets Alive will also include The Great Atlanta Halloween Bicycle Parade.

Price: Free

Urban Coop Tour 2012

When/Where: Starts at noon Saturday and Sunday at The Wylde Center (formerly the Oakhurst Community Garden) at 435 Oakview Road, Decatur. 

Why Go: See some of the fanciest chicken houses around, check out some unusual chicken breeds and meet people involved in raising poultry in intown neighborhoods. 

Price: $25, available at the start of the tour

Atlanta Greek Festival

When/Where: Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Road, N.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30329. The event runs from 11am - 11pm Friday & Saturday; 11am - 7pm Sunday 

Why Go: Learn about Greek culture, eat delicious Greek food, watch traditional dance and shop. You can also tour the chapel of the Greek Orthodox church.

Price: Adults $5. Children 12 & under Free. Save $1 and skip the line by buying online.

Taste Of Atlanta

When/Where: Saturday and Sunday at Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center, 800 Spring St. NW

Why Go: Patrons sample delicious dishes, sip robust wines, craft beers, and innovative cocktails.

Price: $25;  Buy Tickets

Bank of America and Merrill Lynch’s "Museums on Us"

When/Where: Saturday and Sunday at Atlanta History Center and The High Museum of Art.

Why Go: Bank of America is offering its customers the Museums on Us program which gives bank cardholders free admission to some of the most exciting cultural venues nationwide, including the Atlanta History Center and the High Museum of Art.

Price: Free for cardholders
