Boy, 7, Drowns in Apartment Pool

A Sunday afternoon outing at an apartment pool complex in south Forsyth County turned tragic when a 7-year-old boy drowned.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. at the Centennial Apartments in the Windermere subdivision off Highway 20, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Stephon Alston, of Cumming, had apparently been playing at the pool when his father left the area to go to the restroom to wipe off his face after he had been pushed into the pool. When he came back, he saw his son’s swim suit at the bottom of the pool and realized that his son was not resurfacing.

March Against Police Violence Ends in Arrests

Friday night's arrests in Midtown were apparently surrounding a Facebook event called the " March Against Police Violence" and not an Occupy Atlanta event as originally suggested by a spokesperson with the Atlanta Police Department.

The rally “against state repression” was reportedly in response to three males who were shot by police in and around Atlanta within a 36 hour period in June, as well as  for the protests ongoing in Anaheim, Calif. concerning a pair of police killings last weekend.  Read more...
