Here are the latest updates on road work being done around West Cobb and Cobb County during the week of June 10-14, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation.
Al Bishop Drive Trail Construction
Callaway Road to County Services Parkway: The contractor will begin clearing and installing erosion control.
Powder Springs Bridge Replacement over Silver Comet Trail (City of Powder Springs): Powder Springs Road will be closed from Richard D. Sailors Parkway to Austell Powder Springs Road through Aug. 6.
Dallas Highway/SR120 Resurfacing
Georgia Department of Transportation staff is resurfacing SR120 from the Paulding County Line to John Ward Road. Most of the work will take place at night. The project is scheduled for completion in December.
Road Resurfacing Asphalt paving operations are scheduled on the East-West Connector from Fontaine Road to South Cobb Drive from Monday through Friday. One lane will be open at all times.
Casteel Road Sidewalks Construction
Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. between Ballard Drive to Dallas Highway (SR 120).
Concord Road Construction
South Cobb Drive to Atlanta Road: Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open in each direction at all times.
The Evelyn Street intersection with Concord Road has been permanently closed.
Cooper Lake Road Sidewalk Construction
Laurel Springs Way to South Cobb Drive: Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Frida. One lane will remain open at all times.
Paper Mill Road at Sope Creek
Paper Mill Road Bridge at Sope Creek is closed through Oct. 25. The new bridge will include a 6-foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to the National Park Service trails. A signed detour route (see attached map) will be provided during construction.
Johnson Ferry at Riverside Drive
The Johnson Ferry/Abernathy project developed through collaboration among the GDOT, Cobb County and the City of Sandy Springs is nearing completion.
New traffict signal displays are now in effect at the intersection of Johnson Ferry Road and Riverside Drive, prohibiting right turns on red onto Riverside Drive from Johnson Ferry Road southbound.
Indian Hills Parkway (Eastside Elementary School)
Contractor will begin installing construction signage, erosion control and locating utilities.
Lower Roswell Road Construction
Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway
Expect delays and lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane open for your commute.
Willow Point Pkwy to Timber Ridge Road
One lane will remain open for commute from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Little Willeo Road
Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Karls Gate Drive to Lake Fjord Pass. One lane will remain open.
Floyd Road Construction
Clay Road to Hicks Road: Expect periodic lane closures 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open.
Pedestrian Access: Temporary sidewalks are in place are to assist pedestrians while crews install new sidewalks along the east side of Floyd Road. All existing CCT bus stops will be maintained during construction.
Hopkins Road Bridge Replacement
Hopkins Road at Wildhorse Creek Bridge will be closed through July 29. A signed detour route will be provided during construction.
County Services Parkway Sidewalks
Expect periodic lane closures with one lane remaining open in both directions between Austell Road to Powder Springs Road.
Church Street at Mableton Elementary
Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open while the contractor continues clearing, installing storm drainage, placing concrete curb and sidewalk and water relocation.
Asphalt paving operations are scheduled from Monday through Friday on the following road (expect delays):
- Perkerson Mill Road from Austell Road to Jones Road.
- Riverside Parkway from Six Flags Drive to White Road.
I-285 Top-End Resurfacing
Expect delays as Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. The project is scheduled to complete in August.
Old Stilesboro Road Resurfacing
Asphalt paving operations, which include lane closures are scheduled Monday through Friday on Old Stilesboro Road from Acworth Due West Road to Mars Hill Road. One lane will remain open.
Barrett Parkway Construction
- Northbound/Burnt Hickory Road to Cobb Parkway (US 41): Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open at all times.
- Southbound/Cobb Place to Burnt Hickory Road: Expect periodic lane closures from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open.
John Ward Road Sidewalk
Brookmont Trace to Arbor Forest Drive: Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday while the contractor installs water main along the road shoulder.
I-575 at Barrett Parkway
Georgia DOT continues work on the intersection and ramps at I-575 and Barrett Parkway. This project is scheduled to complete this month.
New Chastain Road Bridge Replacement
Cobb DOT has began replacing the westbound bridge on New Chastain Road over Noonday Creek. Westbound lanes are closed for four months or longer, and traffic is being detoured to the eastbound bridge, which provides one lane in each direction during construction.
Shiloh Road/Shallowford Road Construction
- Wade Green Road to Canton Road: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open.
- Shallowford Road to Rocky Mountain Road: Expect lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with one lane remaining open at all times.
Jiles Road Construction
- Cobb Pkwy to CSX Railroad Bridge: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open.
Chimney Springs Water Main Replacement
The installation of the water main is concentrated along Smoke Stone Circle. During the next two weeks, the work will continue along Smoke Stone Circle and then start up Chimney Springs Drive.
