Former Atlanta Braves Pitcher John Smoltz Endorses Brandon Beach

Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz hosted nearly 600 Cherokee County voters at the East Towne Lake Hills Clubhouse of Woodstock on January 4th in a campaign rally for Senate candidate Brandon Beach. 

The event attracted a diverse crowd that included homemakers, teachers and elected officials, including Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison, Cherokee County Chairman Buzz Ahrens, Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann and Cherokee County School Board Chairman Janet Read.  

“I have known Brandon for over ten years and was privileged to serve with him when we created a Christian school with Conservative values. I know his character and his commitment and that’s why I’m here today,” said Smoltz.

Brandon Beach has represented Cherokee County for the last five years as a member of several state boards.  Over this time, Beach has developed a strong base of support among Cherokee County residents. 

He recently secured $500,000 to build, repair and maintain sidewalks along paths to schools. “Cherokee County deserves someone with a history of looking out for the families.  Cherokee is not new to me. I am ready to continue my service to communities throughout Cherokee as a member of the State Senate,” said Beach. 

Beach addressed the questions of taxes and T-SPLOST. 

“I want to be clear. As a member of the City Council, I voted for what was then the largest property tax relief in Georgia.  That’s my record on taxes-lowering them.” Beach went on to share with the crowd that his opponent voted for tax increases on four different occasions, supported creating the T-SPLOST which Cherokee voters rejected and served on the Roundtable that created the T-SPLOST Project list.  “I want everyone in Cherokee County to know that I will work every day, taking nothing for granted, to make sure our voice is heard.  I am consistent in my beliefs, committed and ready to work for you,” said Beach.

Smoltz concluded by stating, “I do not associate myself with just anyone or anything. I am here because I know what kind of a person Brandon is and I know what he stands for.  He will be a great Senator, but more than that, he will be the kind of Senator who works to get things done.”   

The Special Election is this Tuesday, January 8, 2013.  The winner will be sworn in ahead of the Session that begins on January 14^th.
