Tony McDowell, 47, of Woodstock was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after shooting his son-in-law Kamoana Hopeau, 30, of Blue Ridge this morning.
Hopeau has been discharged from after being treated for a gunshot wound to the back, said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
McDowell is in custody at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without bond.

Kamoana Hopeau of Blue Ridge went to his in-laws' house at 2013 Bascomb Carmel Road to retreive his child at approximately 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
An altercation between Hopeau and his father-in-law, Tony McDowell, 47, of Woodstock, ensued and McDowell shot Hopeau with a small caliber handgun, Baker said.
Hopeau ran up to a 's patrol car that was conducting a traffic stop near Highway 92 and Lovejoy Lane and was then transported to with non-life threatening injuries.
McDowell is being questioned by detectives, but no charges have been filed as the case remains under investigation.
Baker said there are allegations of domestic violence between Hopeau and McDowell’s daughter.
