The Woodstock Police Department's Explorer Unit recently brought home accolades from the Southeast Regional Law Enforcement Conference.

The unit placed fourth in accident investigation competition, which encompasses reporting, diagramming and investigating all the aspects of motor vehicle collisions.

Eight explorers recently traveled to Gatlinburg, Tenn., in order to participate in the competition.

While there, the Explorer Post competed against numerous other law enforcement explorer posts from across the region, covering several aspects of law enforcement.

The Woodstock Police Department recognizes the dedication of Explorer Captain Matthew Hinkle, Explorer Lieutenant Justin Hinkle, Explorer Sergeant Tiffany Hunnicutt, Explorer Sergeant Darrell Simpson, Explorer David Perry, Explorer Benjamin Bitzer, Explorer Ryan Hamburg and Explorer Adam Gilham.

Started in 2007, the Woodstock Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a program for young men and women who are interested in learning about careers in law enforcement.

Explorers are given instruction on the purpose, mission and objectives of law enforcement agencies.

The program also provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities and community service activities.

The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities.
