Coroner Confirms Cause Of Death For 72-Year-Old Algonquin Woman
A family member found "extensive soot and smoke damage" in the home before calling 911, but there was no active fire.

UPDATE DEC 19: Anne Majewski, the McHenry County Coroner, has confirmed that the death of Rosemary Schwieger was due to soot and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

ALGONQUIN, IL — The McHenry County Coroner is investigating the death of a 72-year-old Algonquin woman who was found dead in her home Friday afternoon.

Rosemary Schwieger was found by a family member in an Algonquin home. The family member called 911 at 1:38 p.m. when "extensive soot and smoke damage was found upon entering the home," according to a press release from the McHenry County Coroner.
No active fire was reportedly found, the coroner said. The Algonquin Police Department alongside Huntley Fire and Rescue responded and pronounced Schwieger dead at the scene at 2:21 p.m.

The coroner is conducting an autopsy Monday afternoon to determine the cause of death, according to the press release.
No foul play is suspected, but Huntley Fire and Rescue and the Illinois State Fire Marshall are investigating.
