Three McHenry County high schools made this year's U.S. News & World Report's best high schools list. The list was released Tuesday.
Cary-Grove High School ranked 50th in the state while Richmond-Burton High School was ranked as the 53rd best school in Illinois and Marengo High School came in as the 61st best high school in the state, according to the rankings.
U.S. News analyzes data from the 2010-2011 school year from more than 21,000 schools located in 49 states and the District of Columbia to determine the rankings.
All of the McHenry County schools ranked above the Illinois average on math and reading proficiency while Richmond-Burton and Cary-Grove also ranked above average for college readiness, according to the rankings. The rankings base college readiness scores on the percent of 12th graders in a school that took Advanced Placement tests and passed those tests.
The four high schools that the majority of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills students attend — Jacobs High School, Huntley High School, Crystal Lake South High School and Dundee-Crown High School — did not make the list.
