Temperatures could once again hit 100 degrees.

Heat Advisory in Effect Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of the Chicago area, including McHenry County, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday. 

A high of 99 degrees is expected today and heat indexes could reach 105 degrees in much of hte area, according to the National Weather Service. 

Temperatures are expected to drop slowly this evening. 

The NWS offers the following tips for staying safe in the extreme heat:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. 
  • Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
  • Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothes.
  • Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
  • Anyone overcome by heat stroke should be moved to a cool and shaded area. 911 should be called in the case of a heat stroke emergency.
