Aurora Police Chief Alleviates Fears for Immigrants After Trump Election Win

"Nothing has changed," Chief Ziman said. "A police officer will NOT ask your status on a traffic stop or if we are called to your home."

AURORA, IL — While Donald Trump still has about two months before he can officially act on his campaign promises of deporting illegal immigrants, Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman has taken to Facebook to alleviate any fears.

She writes:

Aurora residents, I want to take a moment to ease the fears of our community regarding immigration policies. We have received several inquiries since the election regarding deportation and how the Aurora Police Department intends to respond.
Nothing has changed. A police officer will NOT ask your status on a traffic stop or if we are called to your home. Even in misdemeanor arrest situations, we are NOT going to inquire about immigration status.
The only time we pursue that avenue is in conjunction with the federal agencies when there is a VIOLENT OFFENDER.
Please rest assured, A.P.D. is going to continue doing what we have been doing -- serving our community with compassion and enforcing laws with legitimacy and fundamental fairness.
