AURORA, IL — A 5-year-old golden retriever who got stuck in a pond is alive and well thanks to the efforts of the Aurora Fire Department.
According to a release from the department, the dog’s owner, Andrew Kapur, called the fire department at 8:56 p.m. Tuesday when he realized his dog, Houdini, was trapped in an area of open water in a pond behind his house, which is located in the 100 block of Raven Drive.
Kapur said that he didn’t know who else to call to help rescue his dog.

“Kapur stated that Houdini must have chased something and ran into the pond and fell into the area of open water where the pond’s aerator kept the water from freezing,” the release said.
It’s believed that Houdini was in the water between 30 and 45 minutes before Kapur realized his dog was in trouble.

Firefighters wearing cold water immersion suits and using an ice rescue sled pulled the struggling dog from the water at 9:13 p.m.
“Kapur said that it took a while for Houdini to warm up, but because of the efforts of firefighters he is okay and did not have to receive medical treatment other than getting warmed up,” the release said.
