Barrington Home Deemed Unsafe After Sinkhole Opens Up Under Garage
A property near the Cuba Marsh is affected by poor soil conditions and has a portion of its property located under the base flood elevation.

BARRINGTON, IL - No one was injured Sunday night when a sinkhole opened up underneath the garage floor of a Barrington home, which backs up to the Cuba Marsh and is affected by poor soil conditions, according to the Daily Herald.
The residents of the home in the 300 block of Fox Hunt Trail were home at the time and were watching TV when the incident occurred at about 9:40 p.m., according to the article. The home, which had foundation repair work done in 2009 and which has a portion of the property located under the base flood elevation, has since been deemed unsafe for occupancy until a professional structural engineer can professionally inspect it.
Village officials said other homeowners in the area may want to seek an expert’s advice on the condition of their homes since they may be affected by the same soil conditions, the Daily Herald reports.
