This thought-provoking play, set in the near future in San Francisco, introduces a group of young teenagers who have created a group assignment that talks about the latest terrorist attack on their city, and the effects it has had on them. The show opens with a teenage boy named Marcus Yallow (John Hohman), accompanied by his friends Darryl Glover (Jake Birkhaug), Ange Carvelli (Jamie Vandenover), and Jose Luis or “Jolu” (Mikkel Knutson) talking about their group assignment and what the play entails. The play follows Marcus as he talks about how his normal, everyday life quickly turned into a life of secrecy, unwanted leadership, and rebellion against the corrupt DHS Department of Homeland Security) after a terrorist attack on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. Along the way, he encounters several government officials, including a woman whom Marcus refers to as “Severe Haircut Woman” (Anna Masini), General Sutherland (Kyle Berry) and a stubborn police officer (Adam Arroyo); who want nothing more than to throw Marcus in prison for life, or maybe even give him the death penalty. Refusing to allow the DHS to turn San Francisco into a terrorist state, Marcus and his friends create a new online network where they can plot and devise plans on how to save the idea of freedom in America. In the end it is the final attempt at saving American freedom and stopping the DHS, this last resort that may even result in Marcus losing his life, that finally gets the audience thinking about the society we live in today. Like Marcus and Ange, the other citizens of San Francisco believe in and fight for the preservation of freedom, including Marcus’s parents (Aidan Descourouez and Sarah Heylmun), the girl who spills the beans,“The Pirate Queen” (Meghan Tucker), the rebel rouser at the concert Trudy-Doo (Meghan Rocha), the teacher Mrs. Galvez (Emily Smith), and many more.
