That's because the existing building at 125 W. Wilson St. will be demolished to make way for an updated restaurant that includes a double drive-thru. The demolition is scheduled to occur after 3 p.m. today, Sept. 4, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

Construction of the modern McDonald's is expected to take three to four months, said Rich Neubauer, former McDonald's rebuild manager, in the Chronicle's story.

The Batavia City Planning Commission met multiple times this year with McDonald's developers to review and vote on plans for the revamp. The upcoming 4,000-plus sq. ft. restaurant will be smaller than the current location, which went up back in 1978.

Officials said the Batavia location was in need of relief from traffic build-ups in the drive through. , Neubauer said at an April 4 Plan Commission meeting.

The McDonald's downtown Batavia location is the only one of the global franchise within city limits. The company has nearby restaurants at 1812 S. Randall Road in Geneva, 1505 Butterfield Road in Aurora and 190 Hansen Boulevard in North Aurora.
